International Workshop on Child Well-being in East Asia (Peking University)

Date

January 11, 2019

Overview

To understand the relationship between parental financial resources or parental educational background and child-wellbeing, researchers at the Center for Research on Equality of Opportunity for Children (CREOC) together with scholars from China, Korea, and US are working on the comparative studies using the data of family and children from those four countries.

In January 11th, 2019, the International Workshop on Child Well-being in East Asia was held at the Center for Social Research of Peking University in Beijing, China. Researchers from China, US, and Japan whose majors extend over Economics, Sociology, and Demography participated in the workshop. CREOC Director Akabayashi and 3 researchers at CREOC presented the ongoing comparative studies using the data of China and Japan, and discussed the results with other researchers from China and US.

Also, in the workshop, researchers at Peking University explained to us the characteristics of China Family Panel Studies (CFPS) that is mainly developed by Professor Yu Xie of Princeton University who is a world authority on Sociology. We obtained the valuable information of CFPS and useful comments for our comparative studies through this workshop.

This research is financially supported by the Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research(S) 16H06323: “Investigation of the long-term causal effect of economic inequality on educational inequality based on longitudinal survey and experiments of parent-child pairs and international comparison.”
